1. Record the room and content
- Measure the usable image width and height after furniture, board, speakers and sight lines are considered.
- Measure the possible lens position to image surface—not wall-to-wall room length.
- Record windows, lights, wall/screen color and whether ambient light can be controlled during use.
- List sources and content: text, spreadsheets, teaching, films, photographs, games or video calls.
- Map people, shadows, presenter movement, cable routes, ventilation, power and service access.
- Decide portable, table, wall or ceiling use only after checking safe support and alignment.
2. Calculate a throw-ratio range, then confirm the exact model
For basic planning, throw ratio equals lens-to-screen distance divided by image width. Therefore distance equals throw ratio multiplied by width, and width equals distance divided by throw ratio. Use the same unit for distance and width.
This formula does not model zoom range, lens shift, image offset, keystone, focus tolerance, ultra-short-throw geometry, cabinet depth or mounting error. Use the manufacturer's exact throw chart or calculator and keep adjustment margin.

3. Compare brightness, resolution and room conditions together
ISO/IEC 21118 defines information for front-projection data-projector specification sheets. Identify the standard or method attached to a brightness figure; do not treat an unqualified marketplace lumen number as equivalent to a documented measurement.
Ambient light and larger image area reduce perceived contrast. BenQ's official education describes brightness as a room-and-image-size decision, not an isolated number. Native resolution and aspect ratio should fit the most important content and source output.
- Text and spreadsheets need readable native pixels and appropriate scaling

4. Installation and ownership checklist
Confirm source ports, cable length, adapters, copy-protection requirements, audio path, control method, network policy, power, ventilation, filter/lamp or light-source service and access for cleaning. Do not conceal unsupported adapters or mains extensions inside a wall or ceiling.
